Thaddeus Maclay Mahon (born May 21, 1840 in Green Village , Franklin County , Pennsylvania , †  May 31, 1916 in Scotland , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1907 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thaddeus Mahon received an academic education. During the civil war he served in various units in the Union army . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1871, he began to work in the southern part of the state of Pennsylvania in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1870 and 1872 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . Mahon was also president of the Baltimore & Cumberland Valley Railroad . He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Military Orphanage Supervisory Board. In 1876 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the congressional elections of 1892 Mahon was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 18th  electoral district of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Louis E. Atkinson on March 4, 1893 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1907 . Since 1903 he represented the 17th district of his state there as the successor to Alexander Billmeyer . From 1895 to 1907 he was chairman of the Committee on War Claims . The Spanish-American War of 1898 also fell during his time as Congressman . In 1906 he renounced another congressional candidacy.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Thaddeus Mahon lived in Chambersburg , where he did private business. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died in Scotland on May 31, 1916.
