Thailand Research Fund

The Thailand Research Fund ( Thai : สำนักงาน กองทุน สนับสนุน การ วิจัย , short: TRF) is a government organization in Thailand that promotes research .

Its headquarters are on Phahonyothin Street in the ( Khet ) Phaya Thai District in Bangkok .

goals and tasks

The main goals of the Thailand Research Fund are

  • Train professional researchers and strengthen the research landscape in Thailand
  • Research funding for projects that advance the development of the country
  • Support in the application and dissemination of research results
  • Raising funds for national research and development

The organization does not conduct its own research, but supports research activities according to its guidelines. The organization is directed by a council, whose chairman is appointed by the cabinet and which includes prominent figures in the public. The work of the fund is monitored by a supervisory board. The fund enjoys extensive autonomy and can react flexibly to new developments.

Research programs

The Thailand Research Fund maintains numerous applied and basic research programs . These include programs for the development of agriculture , public welfare , industry and a so-called Golden Jubilee program, which was launched in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej .

Agriculture

The program for agricultural research serves on the one hand to gain new knowledge, e.g. B. in the economic cultivation of new varieties, high-quality crops , water cultures and livestock . On the other hand, it helps in the regular exchange of information and knowledge between the professionals and the farmers.

Public welfare

The public welfare programs focus on research and technology in waste management and recycling, as well as appropriate management structures. Emphasis is placed on sustainable development and clean technologies.

Industry

The industrial program acts as a coordinator between the research interests of the institutes and the needs of the private sector. The industry is viewed as a strategic partner that invests in the country's research and development area. A synergy effect is achieved through the combination of education and research and development training at the universities.

The two programs IRAS (Industry Research Associate Support) and IPUS (Industrial Project for Undergraduate Support) help to interest engineering students in technical applications in industry and to make the industrial sector aware of the research potential of Thailand.

Basic research

The basic research program serves to increase the research culture in the country and aims to encourage young people to embark on a research career. The Thailand Research Fund works together with universities and the private sector.

history

The Thailand Research Fund was established by the Research Development Endowment Act under the government of Anand Panyarachun .

Since its inception, more than five audits have been carried out by independent bodies to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the fund. The research management system of the Thailand Research Fund always achieved very good values.
