Course of the road

Route 21, entrance from Lop Buri Province in Phetchabun Province
Route 21, going north, Ban Khok Sa-at, Phetchabun Province

Thailand Route 21 has been expanded into a four-lane expressway since the beginning of the 21st century. The aim was to better connect the province of Phetchabun to Bangkok and central Thailand .

The national road no. 21 starts in the district Chaloem Phra Kiat of Saraburi province . 12 km north of the city of Saraburi it branches off from the Thanon Phahonyothin (Route 1). It crosses the Lop Buri province in a northerly direction . In the subsequent province of Phetchabun it runs through the valley of the Pa Sak almost parallel to the river, between the two north-south mountain ranges of the Phetchabun Mountains further north. After 227 km the capital Phetchabun is crossed.

Phetchabun Airport is 28 km further on the right . After another 20 km she turns left in Lom Sak , in the district ( Amphoe ) Lom Sak (อำเภอ หล่มสัก). It now follows the former main road 203 which was added to National Road No. 21 and renamed accordingly. After 6 km, the former Sak Long airfield was on the left .

In a slightly north-westerly direction, the 21 continues to the north of Phetchabun Province, where it crosses the Nam Phung River and the Loei Province begins. Over a distance of around 60 km it slowly changes direction and then heads east to Loei . With a total length of about 415 km, it ends at the intersection with main road 201 in the provincial capital.
