Thanong Bidaya

Thanong Bidaya (pronounced Thanong Phithaya , Thai : ทน ง พิ ท ยะ ; born July 28, 1947 in the province of Suphan Buri , Thailand ; a native of Thanong Lamyai - ทน ง ลำไย ) was Minister of Finance of Thailand. He is a member of the Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party.

Life

In 1965 he worked for the Japanese government. At the same time he studied economics at Yokohama University in Japan. There he received his bachelor's degree in 1970 and a year later he was able to acquire his master's degree at Northwestern University in Illinois . In 1978 he received his Ph. D. In Illinois, he also worked for the Ford Foundation from 1971 . He became Thailand's finance minister for the first time on June 21, 1997, but only remained so until October 24 of the same year. From 2002 to 2005 he was Chairman of Thai Airways International . In 2004 he received an honorary doctorate from Yokohama University. On August 1, 2005, he was again Minister of Finance. He remained in this position until the military coup on September 19, 2006 .
