Thar Es-Souk or Tahar Souk ( Arabic طهر السوق) is a rural commune (Commune rurale) with around 6,000 inhabitants in the Taounate province in the Fès-Meknes region in northern Morocco .
Location and climate
The place Thar Es-Souk is located on the Oued Ouerrha in the southern foothills of the Rif Mountains approx. 48 km (driving distance) northeast of the provincial capital Taounate at an altitude of approx. 490 m . The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 520 mm / year) falls almost exclusively in the winter half-year.

The population of the place is mostly of Berber descent; one speaks Tarifit and Moroccan Arabic .
economy
Agriculture and livestock are practiced in the surrounding area. Mainly wheat is grown, as well as fruit and fruits such as cherries, apples, peaches, figs and olives for oil production.
history
The area around Thar Es-Souk, which belongs to the Jebala region, was and is inhabited by two formerly warring Berber tribes - the Aït Mernissa and the Aït Ouerrha . Until the creation of Taounate Province in 1977, the town and its surrounding area belonged to the Taza Province .
Attractions
About 12 km (as the crow flies) east of the village is the Barrage Assfalou , a reservoir with a maximum capacity of 320 million m³ and an area of about 9 km².
