The Almighty is a British rock band that enjoyed success in the late 1980s / early 1990s.

history

Band boss and singer / guitarist Ricky Warwick began his career as a touring guitarist for New Model Army , after whose Poison Street tour in 1987 he started his band The Almighty that same year.

Together with the bassist Floyd London, the guitarist Tantrum and the drummer Stumpy, he made a breakthrough right at the beginning of their career. After only twelve concerts, as a result of a support slot in the London Marquee for the band Underneath What , The Almighty signed a record deal with Polydor Records.

Around the same time, the band hit the headlines when they got into trouble with the Hells Angels who believe the Almighty band logo is similar to that of the motorcycle rockers.

After their debut Blood, Fire and Love , their first live album entitled Blood, Fire and Live was released a year later . The Almighty went on tour in England with bands such as Wolfsbane , Gun and the Ramones in October 1990 , before accompanying Ratt and Faster Pussycat in Europe and completing another tour of Great Britain as the opening act for Motörhead .

In March 1991 the band toured England again with the second album Soul Destruction . In the same year The Almighty played in support of Alice Cooper on his European tour. Within a very short time the band earned a reputation as an excellent live band and was therefore considered a great English rock hope. Since Ricky Warwick since 1990 Vanessa Warwick , the host of the MTV telecast Headbanger's Ball is married, is occasionally suggested in the press, the band may also be obtained increased attention at the transmitter.

After the tour, the guitarist Tantrum got out and formed a band of the same name. His replacement was the former Alice Cooper guitarist Pete Friesen (also known under the stage name Pete Freezin), who had a small speaking role in the movie Wayne's World as the guitarist of Alice Cooper.

In August 1992, The Almighty were the inaugural band of the Monsters of Rock Festival at Castle Donington, where Iron Maiden , Skid Row , Thunder , WASP and Slayer also performed. The third album Powertrippin 'was released in April 1993 and, in contrast to the two predecessors, sounded much more modern and influenced by grunge .

Further tours through Great Britain as the opening act for Iron Maiden as well as his own headlining tour with the Wildhearts and Kerbdog in the opening act meant that the singer Ricky Warwick collapsed at the end due to exhaustion. After a bleak US club tour, they were dropped from their Polydor record label and signed to Chrysalis in 1994.

The album Crank , released in the same year, went with the times again and had a clear punk metal touch. The band played in the opening act for Pantera on their European tour. After the popular Just Add Life (1996), The Almighty announced their breakup.

In 2000 the band got back together and recorded the album The Almighty, which bears the band's name . In addition to Ricky Warwick, Stumpy and Floyd London, the new guitarist Nicky Parsons was part of the cast. The last sound document of the band is the 2001 Psycho-Narco , on which the new bassist Gavin Gray can be heard.

In 2006 the band reunited. In the line-up of Warwick, Friesen, London and Stumpy Monroe, the band played two sold-out benefit concerts in January, raising £ 25,000 for research into the fight against leukemia , which bassist Floyd London fell ill with in September 2004. In 2011 Ricky Warwick was on tour with Thin Lizzy as singer and guitarist .
