The Burning Hell is a Canadian music band, originally from Peterborough , Ontario , with a worldwide following. Today the band resides in St. John's on Newfoundland .
history
The Burning Hell (English for The Burning Hell ) is the singer-songwriter project by Mathias Kom and changing band members, plus guest appearances by artist friends. Permanent members since 2011 are Kom (vocals, guitar, ukulele ), Ariel Sharratt ( clarinet , saxophone ), Darren Browne (guitar), Nick Ferrio ( bass ) and Jake Nicoll ( drums ).
Known for his moving appearances and poetically humorous texts, Kom is described by one of the largest Canadian newspapers ( The Globe and Mail ) as: “Canada's Randy Newman and Cole Porter flow into one another, with one eye on the coming apocalypse and the other on the Neck of his ukulele ”.
In 2012 the band performed ten gigs between the Netherlands and Slovenia in just 24 hours. The band dedicated this record to the so-called "DIY scene" ("musicians without expensive professional equipment for recording or marketing") and similar networks worldwide. A film crew accompanied them and documented this trip.
In 2014 the tribute album My Name Is Mathias was released. Canadian and international musicians recorded songs from the band on this. Including John K. Samson , Mike O'Neil, Mike Feuerstack, Dan Mangan, Susie Asado and members of the band Pizza Underground.
