occupation

The Cavern (Original title: WIthIN) is an American horror film and the directorial debut of Olatunde Osusanmi. It is a direct-to-video production from 2005.

action

Bailey, Gannon, Domingo, Miranda and Ori are five adventurers who want to explore a previously unexplored cave in Kazakhstan . The cave lies in the Kyzylkum desert in the middle of nowhere. Two years ago the group had a tragic accident on a similar expedition: water suddenly ran into the cave and Gannon's then girlfriend Rachel drowned. He tried to hold her, but she was swept away by the current. Gannon is still reproaching himself for this today.

The team is joined by the author Ambrose, who is researching a new book, and the two tourist guides Vlad and Slava. Shortly after the expedition group has penetrated into the cave, someone strangers closes the exit with a rock. So you see yourself forced to penetrate deeper into the cave system in order to find another exit. They are pursued by an unknown creature, which gradually kills the members of the group.

Only Miranda and Baily can escape the creature at first. They discover an exit, but just before they can escape, they are drawn back into the cave and dragged off. The creature turns out to be a burned-faced man. His name is Petr and as a child he was the only survivor of a plane crash. After that he withdrew into the cave and lost all social behavior.

background

The film is very similar to the horror film The Descent . In fact, however, it was completed a few months earlier, but was not published until later for better marketing.

criticism

The bad reviews outweigh the horror film. The wobbly camera work and the incomprehensible ending were particularly noticed.

“Realistic cave horror with a wobbly camera. Effective, but towards the end the film goes out of line. "
