The Coathangers are a punk band from Atlanta .
history
The band's name is a sarcastic reference to the hanger as a means of abortion.
The band formed in 2006 and played at a party for fun. Thereupon they were asked to support the band by the Atlanta-based punk band The Hiss . Most recently, The Coathangers toured Europe as the opening act for Trail of Dead . In 2014, the band members appeared as guest musicians on the Mastodon album Once More 'Round the Sun , when they recorded background chants in the style of cheerleaders for the song Aunt Lisa . A few months earlier, Mastodon had appeared dressed as women in The Coathangers video for Follow Me .
