Background information
At the time, Georges Méliès had a contract with the Warwick Trading Company and recreated Westminster Abbey in Montreuil for the cinematic coronation of the king . According to the signed contract, the film had to be finished by June 26, 1902. The Warwick Trading Company worked closely with Star Film on this film .
A man from a laundry in Le Kremlin-Bicêtre was hired to portray the king ; nothing more is known about him. The queen was played by an actress from the Théâtre du Châtelet . While these details have been passed down about the performers, their names are unknown to this day.
The film premiered on August 9, 1902 at the Alhambra Music Hall in London.
