The D4 were a rock band from Auckland , New Zealand . Her music has been released by Hollywood Records in the US, Flying Nun Records in New Zealand and Infectious Records in the UK.

Band history

The band was formed by Dion Palmer and Jimmy Christmas, both guitarists and singers. Back then they put together a collection of pieces just for fun and brought two more members into the band. They had their first appearance in the Frisbee Leisure Lounge . Soon afterwards there were also appearances in the pubs in the local city center.

The band's debut EP was released on Flying Nun Records in 1999 and includes the tracks Girl and Come on! . The style of the band can be described as " hard rock with lots of energetic guitar solos".

Two albums followed in 2001 and 2005. A special characteristic of the band was that Dion Palmer and Jimmy Christmas sang together, sometimes even from the same microphone. Following the success of bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes , The D4 and The Datsuns also became well-known musical groups in the UK and Japan.

In May 2006 the band announced that they would be taking an indefinite break. Dion Palmer then moved to New York City and has been the bassist of the noise rock band A Place to Bury Strangers since 2010 (under the name Dion Lunadon) .
