The film is devoted to the disease cancer from around the middle of the 20th century. The question of how cancer cells develop and how they can be combated is examined. Studies are consulted to try to understand what the differences are that lead to normal cell growth or cancer cell growth in the body and how they do so. It is also mentioned that there are a few cures for certain types of cancer that were once considered invincible, but that cancer still poses numerous puzzles and that many questions cannot be answered to this day.
A network of scientists around the world exchanges information with one another, investigates every hint and checks it with the greatest care, as it could possibly help to solve a pending problem.

The film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in cooperation with the Medical Film Institute of the Association of American Medical Colleges. The film was advised by David Ruhe, MD and Bernard V. Dryer, and VV Bazilauskas, MD as scientific advisor and as advisor to producer Maurice Constant. Colin Low and Evelyn Lambart were responsible for the animated sequences.
Award
Guy Glover, who produced the film, was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Documentary Short Film” in 1951 , but this was attributed to Edmund Reek and his film Why Korea? went.
