The Fleshtones are an American garage rock band from New York , active since 1976 , with musical roots in rock'n 'roll of the 1950s and 1960s.

Band history

In 1976 singer and keyboardist Peter Zaremba, guitarist Keith Streng, bassist Jan Marek Pakulski and drummer Bill Milhizer founded the Fleshtones in the New York borough of Queens . With the song American Beat they gained first notoriety and came to a record deal with the label IRS Records . Their first EP Up-Front was released in 1980 and two years later the debut album Roman Gods . With that they made it into the US album charts straight away . An album that was recorded in 1978 but not released was followed up. There followed three more albums for IRS, of which Hexbreaker is considered their best, but they could not repeat the success of the debut. They are best known for their concerts and live performances.

Since 1987 the band has continued to release albums on changing labels on a regular basis. In addition, the members also had other side projects, such as Keith Streng's Full Time Men , in which REM guitarist Peter Buck played. In the beginning the bass player changed several times and at times a saxophonist was part of the line-up. In addition to Zaremba, Streng and Milhizer, Ken Fox has been part of the four-piece band as bassist since 1990.
