Women's National Basketball Association

Alana Beard was selected in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics in second place overall. Beard has been a key player in the Mystics since her first WNBA season. In her rookie season in 2004 led to the loss of Chamique Holdsclaw , the Mystics almost alone in the playoffs, however, where the Mystics already in the Conference Semifinals to the Connecticut Sun failed. Her first season Beard already got a playing time of 30.1 minutes per game. During this time she averaged 13.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists. In the 2005 season, her playing time increased to 33.8 minutes per game, thereby already achieving an average of 14.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Statistically, it had its best season in 2006 . Although her playing time decreased to 31.3 minutes, she scored 19.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. With these good performances, Beard was mainly responsible for the fact that the Mystics made it back to the play-offs after two years , where they failed, as they did two years ago, because of the Sun. Also in the 2007 season she brought a relatively good season with 18.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3 assists. However, she narrowly missed the playoffs with the Mystics this season. Also in 2008 Beard played another good season with the team but again missed the playoffs. In the 2009 season she helped to reach the playoffs, but the Mystics failed there again in the first round. 2010 and 2011 she could not play games in the WNBA due to injury.

Before the 2012 season, she moved to the Los Angeles Sparks team . There, too, she became an important player who was regularly in the starting line-up. In the first season in LA she was able to win a playoff series for the first time in her career with the team. The Sparks then failed because of the Minnesota Lynx team . From 2013 to 2015 she continued to reach the playoffs with the team, but failed in the first round. Even if she no longer achieved the statistical values as in Washington, she is one of the important players on the team. In 2016 she succeeded in winning the WNBA championship with the Sparks. In 2017 she reached the final series again with the Sparks. But this time the Lynx team was able to win the series. The 2018 season ended early for Beard and the Sparks in the playoffs.

Beard was elected to the All-Star team three times in her first four seasons, and even to the starting line-up once.
