The Front Line is a South Korean war film directed by Jang Hun . The film opened in South Korean cinemas on July 20, 2011.
action
At the beginning of the Korean War , when South Korea was overrun by North Korean troops, friends Eun-pyo and Soo-hyeo were captured during combat operations. Captain Hyeon Jeong-yun releases them because he believes the war is about to end and the two are needed to rebuild.
Two years later, the war is still going on, despite protracted armistice negotiations . Because of critical comments, Eun-pyo is transferred from the intelligence service to the fighting troops on the Eastern Front. Here he is supposed to investigate the suspicious death of the company commander in the crocodile company and expose a mole suspected in the unit, but also meets his friend Soo-hyeo, who was believed to be dead. The crocodile company is opposed on the North Korean side by their old friend, Captain Hyeon Jeong-yun. Both sides are fighting doggedly over the strategically important mountain Aerok, which is constantly changing hands.
Over time, Eun-pyo finds out that Soo-hyeo shot the old company commander and that there was never a mole. Rather, both sides have jointly set up a "mailbox" on the mountain with which they can exchange gifts and letters to relatives in the opposing territory. These letters with North Korean content sent from a South Korean unit had raised suspicions of espionage.
Towards the end of the war, the North Koreans launched an offensive with the help of the Chinese People's Liberation Army , in which Soo-hyeo was shot dead by the dreaded sniper "Two Seconds".
After the battle, the crocodile company learns that a truce has been concluded. However, this will only come into force in twelve hours, so a final attack should be launched to finally recapture the Aerok.
criticism
“Jang Hun's balanced direction and Park Sang-yeon's traditional but well-coordinated script evoke the right level of humanistic anti-war sentiments and individual bravery, transforming the fate of a small community of men trapped in one hell of a place into disclosure like impersonal military corporations mountains make out of molehills. "
