Jang Hun (also Jang Hoon ; born May 4, 1975 in Jeongseon , Gangwon-do ) is a South Korean director and screenwriter.

Career

Jang was born in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province . He studied visual communication at Seoul National University and graduated with a Bachelor of Design . Then worked as an assistant director for Kim Ki-duk on the films Bin-jip and Hwal . His debut film as a director was Rough Cut , written and produced by Kim Ki-duk. However, this film was more aimed at commercial success than Kim Ki-duk's self-directed films. His second film, Secret Reunion (2010), was a huge financial success. The film is about the friendship between a North Korean spy and his South Korean counterpart. His third film was also financially successful and won several film awards. It was also the South Korean entry for the nomination for “ Best Foreign Language Film ” at the 2011 Academy Awards , but was not nominated. In the same year, the documentary Arirang - Confessions of a Filmmaker by Kim Ki-duk was released, in which Kim Ki-duk documented his deep crisis after an accident on a film set in a film diary. This reveals a conflict between him and Jang Hun, whom he called a “traitor” because of his commercial films and his contract with the production company Showbox / Mediaplex .
