The Hated was a band from Annapolis , Maryland / USA from the Washington hardcore punk environment, which is counted as post-hardcore . With their style, the band is also one of the first emocore bands.

history

The band, which was founded in the Washington, DC area , was formed in 1985. Actually intended as a kind of parody of the more rocking tendencies of the post-hardcore bands from the DC hardcore environment, the band itself became a good example of an experimental and ultimately Post-hardcore or hardcore band that is getting rockier.

1985 Mike Bonner leaves the band and is replaced by Kenny Hill, Colin Meeder a little later by John Irvine. With this line-up, the group released Like the Days and the LP What was Behind .

John Irvine left the band in early 1987. He is replaced by Jason Fisher, brother of band member Erik, and later again by Colin Meeder, who rejoins the band.

In 1990 the group finally broke up. The former band members played or continue to play in other bands, such as Three Shades of Dirty , Slack , Liquorice or Ida .

style

The style was similar to early post-hardcore bands, but most notably the early emo band Rites of Spring . Mid-Tempo DC Hardcore with more melodic guitars and more emotional lyrics. The band's singing changes between the rather rough hardcore punk usual shouting / screaming, melodic chants and more emotional screaming.

In the course of the band's development, however, the band also became increasingly experimental and incorporated influences from bands - such as The Who . Like many of the earlier post-hardcore bands Embrace , Fugazi , Hüsker Dü etc., the group with their sound is considered to be pioneering for indie rock .
