The Jazz Showcase
The Jazz Showcase is a Chicago jazz club that has been in existence since 1947.
The Jazz Showcase was founded in 1947 by Joe Segal . He had previously organized jam sessions in Altgeld Hall during his studies at Roosevelt University . Since then, u. a. Chris Potter , Frank Morgan , Danilo Pérez , Larry Coryell , Paul Wertico , James Carter , Ira Sullivan , Winard Harper , Sun Ra , McCoy Tyner , Dexter Gordon and Bunky Green . In the Jazz Showcase and concert recordings as incurred Ahmad Jamal Trio Album Chicago Revisited (1992). After initially being in the Rush Street neighborhood , the location of the venue changed frequently. From 1970 he was on North Lincoln Avenue, from 1980 to 1995 in the Renaissance Blackstone Hotel ; from 1996 corner of Clark Street and Grand Avenue; since 2008 is housed in the former Dearborn Station at 806 S. Plymouth Ct in South Plymouth Court , designed by Segal's son Wayne in 2008.
Musicians were usually hired for five evenings a week plus a Sunday matinee (for children).
The owner Joe Segal received the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship for 2015 .
