The Levitation Hex is an Australian progressive metal band from Canberra that was formed in 2010.

history

The band was founded in March 2010 by guitarist and singer Adam Agius (ex- alchemist ) and bassist and singer Mark Palfreyman ( Alarum ). In 2011, the recordings for the debut album began, with the line-up being completed by guitarist Scott Young, also with Alarum, and drummer Ben Hocking (Ex- Aeon of Horus ). The self-titled album was then released the following year. After appearing in Australia, they went on a European tour in October 2012 , which included an appearance at ProgPower Europe . The group then signed a record deal with the German label High Roller Records . In 2013 work began on the second album called Cohesion . The publication took place in 2016.

style

According to the biography on levitationhex.net the band was through space rock , psychedelic rock , progressive rock of the 1970s and old-school - thrash and death metal influences. In an interview with Andreas Schiffmann from Rock Hard , Adam Aguis stated that the lyrics on the second album are more positive than on the first. He tries to align the texts spiritually as possible . A Mellotron is also used in the songs . In the previous edition, Schiffmann had reviewed Cohesion . The debut album was "an effective substitute drug" for Alchemist. The eccentric style and the uneven vocals on Cohesion bring back memories of Voivod . Like this band, The Levitation Hex also process influences from punk , thrash metal and psychedelic rock. However, the sound is more threatening and dense, while the lyrics are also more negative. The second album is less bulky than the previous one. Marcel Rudoletzky from Metal Hammer assigned the band to Progressive Death Metal in his review of the self-titled album . The album should be simpler and “heavier” than the material from Alchemist. The term Progressive Death Metal is only applicable to the group to a limited extent, however, as many other influences can be recognized, such as from Red Harvest , industrial influences from bands like Killing Joke , sludge influences in the style of Kylesa and Tiamat influences from A. - Deeper-Kind-of-Slumber times.
