Red Harvest was an industrial metal band from Oslo , Norway .

history

Jim Bergsten live at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, September 24th 2005

Jimmy Ivan Bergstein (guitar, vocals), Thomas Brandt ( bass ) and drummer Cato Bekkevold already played together in the heavy metal band Arctic Thunder. When Jan Nygaard joined the band, the band members founded Red Harvest in 1989.

The first demo Occultia was completed in December , followed by Psychotica in 1990. Their debut album Nomindsland was released in 1992 on Black Mark Production . At the time, the band was playing traditional thrash metal . The subsequent tour took her to England with Cadaver . The band Cradle of Filth also played the opening act at several concerts .

In 1994 the album There's Beauty in the Purity of Sadness was released on Voices of Wonder . The accompanying music video by Wounds was banned on Norwegian television, but MTV USA broadcast the clip. Nygaard got out that same year, he was replaced by Ketil Eggum. Keyboarder Lars Sorensen also got on board. With the EP The Maztür Nation in 1995 the band began to include more electronic elements in their music.

In 1996 Hybreed was released. Cato Bekkevold dropped out after completing a tour in the supporting act of Type O Negative , in order to later play for Enslaved and Ashes to Ashes for a short time . Erik Wroldsen from Trivial Act helped out as a replacement. Another EP was released in 1998, after which the band switched to Nocturnal Art Productions . There the album Cold Dark Matter was released in 1999 with Fenriz von Darkthrone as a guest musician. From this album, the solid industrial metal style emerged, which the band still follows today. A tour in support of Mayhem and Aeternus takes the band to Germany.

Cold Dark Matter was the first album to be released in America, where it is distributed by Relapse Records . On the occasion of the new distribution agreement, the EP New Rage World Music from 1998 with bonus tracks is released as an album. The 2002 work Sick Transit Gloria Mundi earned Red Harvest a nomination for the Spellemann Prize (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Award ), but in the end Dimmu Borgir prevailed. In 2003 a split single with Zyklon was released . Antipax Mundial Total was released in 2003 as an internet-only release.

Internal Punishment Programs was published in 2004 . Candlelight Records took over the US distribution . In 2005 a new contract was signed with Season of Mist . A cover version of the Ramones song Somebody Put Something in My Drink appeared on a Scandinavian tribute album . A Greater Darkness , the last studio album to date, was released in 2007.

In May 2010 the band broke up for unspecified reasons.

Projects

The Red Harvest band members participated in several other bands. Sorensen also plays in Mezzerschmitt with Jan Axel “Hellhammer” Blomberg ( Mayhem ) and Rune “Blasphemer” Eriksen (ex-Mayhem, Ava Inferi ). Together with Eggum and Bergsten, he also runs the side project Dunkel: heit. Thomas Brandt played Thrash Metal in the band Walkevören and for some appearances with Khold .
