Ava Inferi is a Portuguese Gothic Metal band that was formed in Almada in 2005 .

history

The band was founded in 2005 by the Norwegian musician Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen (ex- Mayhem , Aura Noir , Mezzerschmitt ) and the Portuguese singer Carmen Susana Simões (ex- Aenima ). After Jaime Ferreira joined as bassist and João Samora as drummer that same year, the band began to work on their first album. This was finally released in January 2006 under the name Burdens on the French label Season of Mist and, in a departure from Eriksen's previous black metal career, is more characterized by melancholy doom metal sounds and the singer's melancholy singing, which is strongly inspired by the Portuguese fado style is.

The Portuguese gothic metal band Moonspell was so impressed by the singer that she was hired in spring 2007 for a re- recording of the album Under Satanæ . She was also a guest singer on the album Night Eternal .

In October 2007 the second album The Silhouette was released, which is stylistically very similar to the debut album and is characterized by dark, elegiac music.

In April 2008, Eriksen left Mayhem for good to concentrate on his work with Ava Inferi and to relocate from Norway to Portugal. According to his own words, he processed the difficult and negative farewell to Mayhem in the "cleansing album" Blood of Bacchus , which was released in May 2009. For a song on the album he was able to win his friend Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg from the Norwegian band Ulver as a guest singer.

Even if the band rarely appears live, they have already played at larger festivals such as the Hellfest 2008 or the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2009. In February / March 2009 they also played together with Tiamat and The 69 Eyes at the Hellhounds-Fest- Tour .
