Kristoffer Rygg (born September 9, 1976 , former pseudonyms including: Fiery G. Maelstrom, G. Wolf, Garm, Trickster G., God Head) is a Norwegian singer , composer and music producer . He is best known for his work at Ulver , but was also a member and guest musician in numerous other metal , rock and electronica bands .

Life and work

At the age of 16 he founded Ulver, whose debut album Bergtatt was released in 1995 and became a milestone in Black Metal . He has also been a member of Arcturus since 1993 and Borknagar since 1995 . He left the latter in 1997. At the same time he began to move away from black metal roots with Arcturus and Ulver; Both bands now integrated non-genre elements in albums such as La Masquerade Infernale and Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell . With Ulver, he turned completely away from metal and to trip-hop and ambient , he left Arcturus in 2003. In 2010 he denied any attachment to his old fans as well as any intentions to ever play songs from the first three Ulver albums perform live. Nevertheless, he continued to occasionally work as a guest musician and producer for metal bands, e.g. B. for Dimmu Borgir , Myrkur and Borknagar.

Rygg founded the independent label Jester Records in 1998 , through which albums by Ulver, Arcturus, Star of Ash , Virus and others were released. In the mid-2000s Rygg ran the alternative metal band Head Control System with Daniel Cardoso and in the late 2000s the improvisation project mitthenor with Stephen O'Malley , David Tibet and Daniel O'Sullivan .

In the 1990s he was a firm believer in the supernatural and dark forces. He later referred to himself as a Satanist , but turned away from it a few years later. He is now concerned with earthly issues such as humanity and humanity.

Rygg has two children.
