My Angel is the first EP from the Norwegian metal band Arcturus . It was released in 1991 on Putrefaction Records.

Creation and publication

Marius, Sverd and Hellhammer recorded the demo Slow Death as Mortem in the late 1980s and renamed the band Arcturus in 1990. With the same line-up they recorded Arcturus' first EP My Angel . Putrefaction Records released it in 1991 on a 7-inch record , which was available with a yellow, blue or green cover . The EP was limited to 1100 copies.

The two tracks on the EP were also released in 2000 on True Kings of Norway , a compilation of early EPs by Arcturus, Emperor , Immortal , Dimmu Borgir and Ancient released by Spikefarm . In addition, there were several new editions of My Angel together with the second EP Constellation and other partially unreleased tracks: 1997 as an LP on Nocturnal Art, remastered in 2002 and the debut album as a double CD on Candlelight Records and in 2012 in various CD and LP editions at Kyrck Productions.

Track list and music

  1. My Angel - 5:57
  2. Morax - 6:29

Arcturus add Doom Metal influences to My Angel Mortems Death Metal , but are already difficult to categorize here. The pieces are mostly slow, monotonous and live from their dark, morbid atmosphere. The focus is on the unusual drumming and keyboard play - both point to later releases - and Marius' deep spoken vocals .

reception

Maximon Taranis of Legacy thinks that the "insufficient vocal performance" on My Angel and the "monotonous, grueling music [...] can [not] capture the spirit of the later Arcturus". However, Captain Chaos from vampster notes that the EP “should cause a sensation. There has never been similar music before, sluggish, absolutely dark and atmospheric. ”UMU from Prog Archives thinks My Angel is an interesting insight into the Norwegian black metal scene of the 1990s.
