"White Tie Black Noise" and "Deception Genesis" are new pieces, "Du Nordavind" a new recording of the piece from the EP Constellation and the debut album Aspera hiems symfonia . The original versions of the remaining titles appeared on La Masquerade Infernale in 1997 . After this, the "Curiosities" of Disguised Masters emerged , which were produced by the band itself. Arcturus warn on the back cover that this is not their new studio album, but a product of “musical disjunction ” that requires “general nonsense”.
style
While the two new pieces and the new recording of “Du Nordavind” stylistically tie in with the theatrical combination of metal , electronic music and chamber music on La Masquerade Infernale , the remixes are mostly far removed from the style of the originals due to rearrangement and electronic alienation.
- "Alone" receives noise influences and trip-hop rhythms with sampled drums.
- “The Throne of Tragedy” becomes an electro piece.
- “La Masquerade Infernale” is a quieter version of the original with drum loops .
- “Master of Disguise” is a rapped version with hip-hop and breakbeats .
- “Painting My Horror” becomes an ambient piece with influences from Clicks & Cuts .
- “Ad Astra” can be found in an EBM and a string quartet version.
reception
Jason Hundey from Allmusic finds Disguised Masters interesting, but only recommends it to fans of the band. Gunnar Claussen from Babyblauen Seiten thinks it is “a successful remix album with some very good and many convincing processing of the 'La Masquerade Infernale' material”. In the online magazine Vönger Disguised Masters is described as "a universe of timelessly crazy music", in Rock Hard as "a logical link between 'La Masquerade Infernale' and Ulvers ' Themes From William Blake's Marriage Of Heaven And Hell '".
