Carl August Tidemann

Carl August Tidemann is a Norwegian guitarist and composer . He is best known for his work with Arcturus and Winds .

Life and work

He started playing guitar at the age of 17. After about three years he took lessons from Mads Eriksen at a music school, then he went to the Musicians Institute for the first time for a summer course , which he completed in 1993 with a further 6-month course.

Tidemann founded the progressive metal band Tritonus in 1989 or 1990 , which recorded demos in 1993 and 1994 and in 1995 contributed two pieces to the compilation A Gathering of 8 Norwegian Prog. Metal Bands . Tritonus' debut album wasn't released until 2013.

In 1995 he was also brought to Arcturus by Jan Axel Blomberg , with whom he recorded their debut album Aspera hiems symfonia . In 1997 he was a guest musician on the successor La Masquerade Infernale . In the meantime his solo album Stylistic Changes was released. After a few years in which Tidemann was hardly musically active, Andy Winter brought him to Winds in 2000 . Tidemann was subsequently involved in all of the band's releases.

Tidemann was also involved as a producer or sound engineer on Fleurety's 1993 demo Black Snow , recorded a few solos for her 2000 album Department of Apocalyptic Affairs and was involved in an EP in 2013. He was also a guest musician on Diabla's album Everything Passes from 2001, on Vesperian Sorrow's album Stormwinds of Ages from 2012 and on Den Saakaldtes Split with Horna from 2014.
