Trolsk Sortmetall 1993–1997 is a compilation by the Norwegian band Ulver . It contains her demo and her first three studio albums and was released by Century Media in November 2014 .

Creation and publication

Philipp Schulte from Century Media followed this publication and was finally able to convince Ulver, who initially reacted hesitantly, of it. In an interview with Rock Hard , however, Kristoffer Rygg said that he had wanted to reissue the band's first three albums for a long time and could now agree on a more elaborate design with Century Media. In addition, legal questions had to be clarified, since the first two albums were released by the VME subsidiary Head Not Found.

The box set Trolsk Sortmetall 1993–1997 brings together Ulver's 1993 demo Vargnatt , a previously unpublished rehearsal room recording from 1995, the sampler contribution Synen recorded in 1996 and the album trilogy made between 1994 and 1996 about the "darker aspects of Norwegian folklore", stylistically designed by Neofolk ( Kveldssanger ) ranges from folk- influenced and melodic Black Metal ( Bergtatt ) to raw and original Black Metal ( Nattens Madrigal ). Century Media, which had already published Nattens Madrigal and the box set The Trilogie - Three Journeyes Through the Norwegian Netherworlde in 1997, brought Trolsk Sortmetall on five CDs in a slipcase with a booklet and on 4 LPs (black, silver or transparent) with MC, booklet and poster on the market. The CD box is limited to 3000 pieces, the LP box with black vinyl to 1500, with silver vinyl to 400 and with clear vinyl to 100 copies. Natten's madrigal was remastered by Tom Kvålsvoll, the other recordings by Jaime Gomez Arellano. The extensive booklet contains unpublished photos, the Norwegian lyrics with English translations, and liner notes by Metalion , Chris Bruni , Michael Moynihan and Mark Pilkington.
