style
Like the Silence EPs, A Quick Fix of Melancholy is rooted in the minimalist ambience , but also has influences from neoclassical music and film music . The compositions are varied. Various electronic effects and samples are used again, synthesizer sounds are mostly in the foreground. Rygg uses his variable vocals again more than on previous releases. The title of the EP is programmatic as the mood of the pieces is melancholy. On metal.de is A Quick Fix of Melancholy with works by Dead Can Dance and Coil compared.
reception
“The bottom line is that 'A Quick Fix Of Melancholy' is an ambiguous affair. In reality, the three completely new songs are quite passable, but rather difficult to digest due to their experimental nature. [...] A so-called quick shot that lacks the big ideas. "
"With the exception of 'Shadows Of The Sun', this EP is the most beautiful that ULVER has ever put on a phonogram."
“Loud-quiet, fast-slow, high-low, light-dull, happy-sad, hopeful-desperate, beautiful-beautiful; Everything is there on this EP. Simply a wonderful disc for lonely hours alone or individually. "
