Mysticum is a Norwegian Industrial - black metal band, under the name Sabazios was founded.

Band history

The band was founded in 1991 or 1992 under the name Sabazios. After the demo recording Wintermass recorded in December 1992 and released in 1993, the band renamed themselves Mysticum. Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth of Mayhem and deathlike silence productions (DSP) took Mysticum under contract, but was assassinated before the band was able to publish about his record company; the band sees his death as the most tragic day in black metal history, and Mysticums bassist Robin Malmberg emphasized that the band would never have been what it was without Euronymous.

Mayhem's drummer Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg joined Mysticum in autumn 1993, but Mysticum ultimately preferred a drum computer for their technical and sterile sound . On June 14, 1994, Necromantic Gallery Productions released the Split 7 ”EP Ulverytternes Kamp / Mourning with Ulver, limited to 1000 copies . In 1995 the band recorded the tracks Kingdom Comes and In Your Grave for the sampler Nordic Metal - A Tribute to Euronymous by Necropolis Records and signed with Full Moon Productions , where their debut album In the Streams of Inferno was released in autumn 1996 . A tour with Marduk and Gehenna followed ; a new piece played for the first time during this tour, Eriaminell (for Here I am in Hell ), appeared on the 1998 sampler A Tribute to Hell - Satanic Rites .

In 2003 the song Black Magic Mushrooms was released on a split 7 ”single with Audiopain through Worship Him Records. In 2004, Lost Masters of the Universe followed , a compilation of older recordings (excluding the contributions to the Euronymous tribute).

The band signed with Peaceville Records for the announced second album Planet Satan and re-mastered re-releases of In the Streams of Inferno and Lost Masters of the Universe . By In the Streams of Inferno has now been announced for February 25, 2013. The second album, Planet Satan , was finally released in October 2014.

Music style and lyrics

Mysticum's style differs from other bands in the early Norwegian scene through the use of a drum computer . The band tries to use it to create a cold and aggressive sound. The band became a pioneer of the style known as Industrial Black Metal. The beats go towards hardcore techno .

Mysticum's lyrics are dark and depressed. In connection with Satanism , Cerastes stated that the band also rebel against the fact that it was "for some a religious belief". For them, Satanism stands “for the conviction that you are the only master over your life and your death, that you are the opponent who rejects every external master or God”.
