The Nashville Teens

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nashville Teens was an English singing group formed in Weybridge , Surrey , England in 1962 .

background

The musicians gave themselves the name out of enthusiasm for American country music - whose stronghold is Nashville ( Tennessee ).

In 1963 the Nashville Teens were for several months the backing band of "Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis at his appearances at the legendary Hamburg Star Club . Then they went back to England and went on tour first with Bo Diddley and then with a band called The Minutemen. That should pay off because a member of the Minutemen , Mickie Most , became a producer in 1964 and took the Nashville Teens under his wing.

Most produced a version of John D. Loudermilk's " Tobacco Road " with them , which became a hit in both England and America .

The Nashville Teens became a sought-after film and television band. In the movie "Pop Gear" they starred with the Honeycombs , The Rockin 'Berries , The Animals , Herman's Hermits , Peter & Gordon , The Remo Four , The Spencer Davis Group and the Beatles . "Gonk Go Beat" was the name of a second film.

In England, the Nashville Teens were in the charts until 1966, even if songs like The Little Bird (1965) or The Hard Way (1966) no longer reached high ratings. The group, which existed until the mid- 1970s , was subject to constant membership changes. The most famous members were Barry Jenkins , who joined the Animals in 1966 , and John Hawken , who joined Renaissance in the mid-1970s . The rest of the band partly worked as a backing band for musicians like Chuck Berry or Carl Perkins .

John Allen later produced Bon Jovi, among others .
