The Naze is a peninsula in the north of James Ross Island . It marks the southeast entrance to Herbert Sound and extends from Terrapin Hill in a northeast direction over a length of 8 km to the south-central coast of Vega Island .
Participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903), led by polar explorer Otto Nordenskjöld, discovered and named them Nåsudden (analogous to the nose hump ). The English-language name that is used today also comes from Nordenskjöld.
