Vladimir Ivanoff

Vladimir Ivanoff (* 1957 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian - German musician , arranger , ensemble director and musicologist .

Life

As a child, Ivanoff emigrated to Germany with his mother, where he originally wanted to take up the profession of film director . Finally he decided to study musicology, art history and theater studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he completed from 1977 to 1987. At the same time he studied renaissance lute from 1982 to 1986 at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel and received his doctorate in 1987 with an award-winning dissertation on the earliest known European lute manuscript for Dr. phil. in musicology.

From 1990 to 1992 he worked in Venice with a Habil - Fellowship of the German Research Foundation at the Habilitation project "Europe and the music of the East" about the musical connections between Orient and Occident.

Since 1985 he has been teaching at several European and American universities and music colleges, lecturing at international symposia, congresses and conferences, regularly publishing articles in various musicological journals and encyclopedias and is the author of several books. The management of worldwide workshops for the artistic development and careers of young musicians complement his professional activities.

He founded and directs several ensembles, such as Sarband in 1986 , Vox in 1989 , with whom he transfers traditional, old and classical music into new, post-modern soundscapes, in 1993 Consortium Monacense and Metamorphoses and in 1996 L'Orient Imaginaire . With the Ensemble Sarband he has performed in concerts, staged performances, radio, television and CD productions throughout Europe, Asia and the USA.

In his capacity as musical director, composer and arranger, he works with numerous artists from various fields, such as the Berliner Philharmoniker , The King's Singers , Concerto Köln , Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui or the women's choir Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares .

From 2011 to 2014 Vladimir Ivanoff was artistic director of the “ Tonhaben ” festival in Bonn .
