The Power of Sex is the second studio album by the German music project E-Rotic . It was released in Europe in 1996 and in the USA in 2003 . 1.4 million copies of the album were sold worldwide. It achieved great success in the Finnish charts, where it reached number two, in Austria and Switzerland, it reached number 18.
background
After Lyane Leigh and Raz-Ma-Taz left E-Rotic and had previously released the single Willy Use a Billy ... Boy , singer Jeanette Christensen and rapper Terence D'Arby took their places shortly afterwards . The latter, however, quit a few weeks after joining the band. He was replaced by the American Ché Jouaner . At first, ex-singer Lyane Leigh continued to unofficially sing the female parts, while Christensen only moved his lips during stage appearances. E-Rotic rappers D'Arby and Jouaner also only moved their lips while producer David Brandes rapped. The single Help Me Dr. Dick , which was able to get 21st place in the German charts for E-Rotic. This was followed by the album The Power of Sex . This could achieve greater success than the debut album Sex Affairs . The subsequent single Fritz Love My Tits was able to hold its own in the charts, but not the last single ( Gimme Good Sex ) from the album.
music
Like the previous album Sex Affairs , The Power of Sex is stylistically a typical Eurodance album from the 1990s, which is largely dominated by pounding beats and catchy synthesizers. Most of the songs have a rap verse by David Brandes, who lent his voice to E-Rotic rappers Terence D'Arby and Ché Jouaner, a sung chorus by Lyane Leigh, who sang instead of Jeanette Christensen, an additional instrumental chorus after the vocal part, and noises interspersed again and again, which sound like moaning during sexual intercourse . However, with songs such as the title song, with the exception of the lyrics, conventional pop ballads from the 90s, as well as Help Me Dr. Dick and Gimme Good Sex to hear dancehall-inspired pieces.
Information about the lyrics
As usual for E-Rotic, most of the lyrics are about intercourse. In a few exceptions (Tears in Your Blue Eyes) it is about love or sadness.
Cover design
The cartoon-like CD cover shows a woman with a bare torso and six arms. In her hands she holds a rocket, the album The Power of Sex , a condom , handcuffs , a winged heart and Cupid . The background color differs from edition to edition. It is yellow on some publications and orange on others.
