The Racer in Kings Island ( Mason , Ohio , USA ) is a double wooden roller coaster manufactured by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters , which opened in 1972.

When the rink opened in the park's Coney Mall themed area, Racer sparked a roller coaster renaissance and a return of wooden coasters . The Racer counts towards the beginning of the second golden age of roller coasters.

Overview

It has two mirror-inverted tracks. Until 1982 the trains drove forwards on both lanes, after which the train always drove backwards on one of the two lanes, while the other train drove forwards.

The Racer is one of four wooden roller coasters in the park, alongside The Beast , Son of Beast, and Fairly Odd Coaster .

With 12,000 trips, Don Helbig holds the record for the most trips on racers.

On May 18, 2007, the coaster received the American Coaster Enthusiasts' Coaster Landmark Award .

Trains

The Racer has four trains with five cars each. Six people (three rows of two people) can be seated in each car. The passengers must be at least 1.20 m tall to be allowed to ride.
