The Rhythm Rockets were an American rockabilly group from Miami , Florida .

history

The Rhythm Rockets were founded around 1956. In January 1957 they played in the opening act for Carl Perkins , who was a guest in Miami at the Old South Jamboree . The Rhythm Rockets themselves were members of the Jamborees broadcast by WMIL.

Around 1958 the group went to the Gulfstream Studio in Hollywood , Florida for the first time , where they recorded a total of over ten pieces. Her first and only single was released on Gulfstream Records , which was owned by the studio owner Vincent Fiorino. The record consisted of the two pulsating rockers My Shadow and Lucky Day . Ray Pates younger brother Don "Donnie" Pate played the lightning-fast and aggressive lead guitar on all of the recordings. Don Pate was only twelve years old at the time. Other unpublished recordings that Fiorino only released in the 1970s included Boppin 'Strollin' & Messin 'Around , Here There Everywhere , Everybody's Gonna Do The Rock'n'Roll and the two instrumentals Donny's Boogie and Who Knows , in which Donny Pate again demonstrated his talent as a guitarist.

Together with Jimmy Voytek , the Rhythm Rockets also played regularly in the club Hialeah Moose Lounge . Her performances there were very popular - a newspaper article described: "Both Ray [Pate & the Rhythm Rockets] and Jimmy are well-known to rock 'n' roll fans. Ray because he's nearly as handsome and sings in the same style as Elvis […]. "

The Rhythm Rockets likely split in the early 1960s. All known recordings have been republished again and again since 1980. The LP Miami Rockabilly, Vol. II and the Ace CD Miami Rockabilly , released in 1998, currently offer the largest selection of their songs.
