The Sandsacks are a band from Berlin , founded in 2002 , that plays music from the medieval scene , Irish folk and folk rock .
style
The group performs with three different live programs. With their Irish folk program, the sandbags with violin, guitar, bass and whistles can be experienced mainly on larger concert stages and festivals. At some medieval markets and historical festivals, The Sandbags play a medieval repertoire with bagpipes, shawms and drums. Since it is common in medieval markets for bands to perform several times a day, an Irish folk program is often played on the last appearance. As a third program, the band has been playing folk rock since 2011, with electric guitar and drums also being used.
The band's first two albums contain exclusively folk pieces. With the 2012 album Far Away , the musicians changed their style and became rockier. Numerous original compositions can be found on this album.
history
The group was originally founded as a trio of medieval minstrels. Soon, however, with Daniel Neumann joining the band, the band became a quartet and the musical focus shifted to Irish folk. The band's motto is: "finest irish folk & celtic music". In 2012, the drummer Matthias Schmidt and the electric guitarist Mathias Busch joined the team - first as additional live musicians, and then as permanent band members with the release of the third album Far Away .
The band has performed in Germany, Switzerland , France , Greece , the Netherlands , Finland and Russia in the past . In March 2011, The Sandsacks played several concerts in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam . Since 2014 the band has appeared regularly at the Medieval Fantasy Spectaculum .
