The St. Francisville Experiment is an American horror film made in 2000 in the form of a mockumentary . The film is also distributed in Germany as At the Gates of Hell .

background

The film begins with the story of Delphine LaLaurie , who is said to have severely abused several slaves in her house in the 19th century. She and her third husband, the doctor Leonard Louis Nicolas Lalaurie, fled their villa in April 1834 after it was burned down in a fire. The firefighters found several shackled, half-starved and tortured slaves in the property, which seemed to confirm the rumors of abuse. Although the owners did not return, it was restored, but it was claimed that the screams of their victims could still be heard in the house.

action

The film plot takes place around 150 years after these events. Tim, Madison, Paul, and Ryan enter Madamme LaLaurie's mansion in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Equipped with cameras, they spend the night in the horror house. The group consists of a clairvoyant, a historian, a filmmaker and a ghost hunter. Because it is said that the souls of the tortured victims never left the house. The group tries to get to the bottom of the paranormal phenomena in the villa.

criticism

"Miserable follow-up to ' The Blair Witch Project ', the hectic staging of which is out of proportion to the narrative result. A pathetic film in all respects. "
