Emil Shimoun Nona (born November 1, 1967 in Alqosh , Iraq ) is Archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Sydney .

Life

Emil Nona Shimoun studied at the Seminary of the Chaldeans, and received on 11 January 1991 Baghdad ordination . He then worked as a pastor. From 2000 to 2003 he did a doctorate at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and teaches anthropology at the ecclesiastical Babel College in Baghdad. He speaks Arabic , Italian , Chaldean-New Aramaic and English .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him in 2009 archbishop of the Archeparchy Mosul and successor to the murdered Paulos Faraj Rahho . The episcopal ordination donated to him on January 8, 2010 Emmanuel III. On January 15, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Sydney , retaining the personal title of Archbishop .
