Najib Mikhael Moussa OP (born September 9, 1955 in Mosul , Iraq ) is an Iraqi religious and Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Mosul .

Life

Najib Mikhael Moussa joined the religious order of the Dominicans in and completed in France the novitiate . He made simple profession on October 4, 1981 . Moussa received on 16 May 1987, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He holds a diploma in practical theology and communication studies and a master's degree in Catholic theology .

On January 1, 1988, Najib Mikhael Moussa became archivist at the Dominican Convention in Mosul. Since September 9, 1990 he has been director of the Digital Center for Oriental Manuscripts in Mosul, which he founded. In addition, from March 10, 2001, Moussa was a member of the ecumenical commission of the bishops of Ninawa . He also taught pastoral theology and communication studies at Babel College in Baghdad .

The Synod of Bishops of Chaldean Catholic Bishops elected him Archbishop of Mosul. Pope Francis confirmed his election as Archbishop of Mosul on December 22, 2018. He was ordained episcopal on January 18 of the following year by Louis Raphaël I Cardinal Sako , the Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon . Co - consecrators were Ramzi Garmou , Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Diyarbakır , and Bawai Soro , Bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy Mar Addai of Toronto . On January 25, 2019, he was introduced to his office with a mass in the Chaldean Paulskirche in Mosul.
