Elias El-Debei

Elias El-Debei (born September 27, 1970 in Damascus , Syria ) is a Syrian clergyman and Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Bosra and Hauran .

Life

Elias El-Debei graduated from Damascus University with a degree in applied science . He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the St. Paul Institute in Harissa . 1998 El-Debei received the sacrament of Holy Orders . Then he was pastor of the parish of St. Elia in Saidnaya for ten years . From 2008 to 2010 he was pastor of the parish of Our Lady of Peace in Harasta . In 2011 El-Debei became pastor of the Melkite Greek Catholic Cathedral in Damascus. He also worked as a judge at the patriarchal church court and as a protosynkellos . Since March 2018 Elias El-Debei was the patriarchal administrator of the Archeparchy of Bosra and Hauran.

The Synod of Bishops of the Melkite Greek Catholic Bishops elected him Archbishop of Bosra and Hauran. Pope Francis confirmed his election as Archbishop of Bosra and Hauran on December 22, 2018. He was consecrated as a bishop on February 1, 2019 by the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch Joseph I ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Nicolas Antiba , Patriarchal Vicar of Damascus , and Jean-Abdo Arbach , Archbishop of Homs .
