Ramzi Garmou

Ramzi Garmou (born February 5, 1945 in Zaxo , Iraq ) is an Iraqi clergyman and Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Diyarbakır .

Life

Ramzi Garmou received the sacrament of ordination for the Archeparchy of Tehran on January 13, 1977 .

On May 5, 1995 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Koadjutorerzbischof of Tehran. The Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon , Raphael I. Bidawid , donated him episcopal ordination on February 25, 1996 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Tehran, Youhannan Semaan Issayi , and the Archbishop of Urmia , Thomas Meram . On February 7, 1999, Ramzi Garmou became Archbishop of Tehran, succeeding the late Youhannan Semaan Issayi.

From 2007 to 2011 he was chairman of the Iranian Bishops' Conference . From July 20, 2013 to November 19, 2016 he was also Apostolic Visitator for the Chaldean Christians living in Europe. From 2015 to 2018 he was again chairman of the Iranian Bishops' Conference.

On December 22, 2018, the Holy See announced its appointment as Archbishop of Diyarbakır by the Patriarch of Babylon, Louis Raphaël I Cardinal Sako .
