Camilo Lorenzo Iglesias (born August 7, 1940 in La Canda , Piñor municipality , Ourense province , Spain ; † July 13, 2020 in Ponferrada , León province , Spain) was a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Astorga .

Life

Camilo Lorenzo Iglesias studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of the Orense diocese , for which he received the sacrament of ordination on December 23, 1966 .

After further studies, he obtained a degree in chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela and then worked from 1972 to 1995 as a teacher at the boys' college of the Orense diocese. Until 1983 he was also a pastor at the Fatima Church in Orense and then took over the leadership of the boys' seminary until 1992. From 1992 to 1995 he was Regens of the seminary.

On June 14, 1995 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishop of Astorga . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Archbishop Mario Tagliaferri , donated him episcopal ordination on July 30th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Oviedo , Gabino Díaz Merchán , and the Bishop of Orense , José Diéguez Reboredo . Camilo Lorenzo Iglesias was a member of the Spanish Bishops' Conference and until 2008 a member of the Episcopal Commission for Seminars and Universities and from 2005 a member of the Mission Commission.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on November 18, 2015.
