The Archeparchy of Tehran was established in 1853 as the Archeparchy of Sehna from cessions of territory by the Archdiocese of Kirkuk . On 16 March 1971, the archeparchy Sehna was by the Congregation for the Oriental Churches with the decree Inde from anno in archeparchy Tehran renamed.
