The Kayan Mentarang National Park is located on the island of Borneo in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Utara , south of the Malaysian border. It comprises the largest protected rainforest area in Indonesia with a total area of 1.4 million hectares. The Malay states of Sabah and Sarawak are also included in territorial terms . There are several Dayak villages in the south of the park .
The WWF counts it among the most valuable rainforest areas on earth. The national park is threatened by the timber industry and plans to convert forests into agricultural land.
