Paul Kouassivi Vieira

Paul Kouassivi Vieira (born July 14, 1949 in Agoué , Benin ; † March 21, 2019 in Rome ) was a Beninese clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Djougou .

Life

Paul Kouassivi Vieira entered the seminary of St. Jeanne d'Arc de Ouidah on October 1, 1962 . After his philosophical and theological training, he received on June 29, 1975 in Rome from Pope Paul VI. the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Lokossa . After postgraduate theological studies at the Catholic Institute for West Africa (ICAO) in Abidjan, he returned to Rome and became Cardinal Bernardin Gantin's private secretary for three years, completing a doctorate in theology. After his return to Benin in 1981 he was pastor of Grand-Popo in the south-west of Benin, then from 1982 to 1992 rector of the small seminary of St. Joseph (Petit Séminaire Saint Joseph Du Lac Adjatokpa). In 1992 he became rector of the Great Seminary of St. Gall of Ouidah (Grand Séminaire Saint-Gall de Ouidah).

On June 10, 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed him first bishop of the Diocese of Djougou, which was established on the same date . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops , Bernardin Gantin , ordained him episcopal on October 1st of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Lokossa, Robert Sastre , and the Bishop of Natitingou , Nicolas Okioh .
