Francis Assisi Chullikatt (born March 20, 1953 in Bolghatty, Kerala , India ) is an Indian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Francis Assisi Chullikatt was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Verapoly on June 3, 1978 . He completed a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy and entered the Vatican diplomatic service on July 15, 1988. He was active in the nunciature in Honduras, in various nunciatures in southern Africa, in the Philippines, at the United Nations in New York and in the State Secretariat of the Vatican in Rome. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on November 10, 1998 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Ostra in 2006 and appointed him apostolic nuncio in Jordan and Iraq . He was ordained episcopate on June 25, 2006 , by Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo , Secretary of the Vatican State Secretariat ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Pedro López Quintana , Apostolic Nuncio in India, and Daniel Acharuparambil OCD , Archbishop of Verapoly. His motto is Fidei in Virtute .

On July 17, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. permanent observer at the United Nations in New York and the Organization of American States in Washington, DC He succeeded Archbishop Celestino Migliore . On July 2, 2014, Bernardito Cleopas Auza was appointed as his successor.

Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on April 30, 2016 . On June 24, 2016 he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Kyrgyzstan .

Chullikatt is fluent in English, Italian, French and Spanish.
