Pedro López Quintana
Pedro López Quintana (born July 27, 1953 in Barbastro ) is a diplomat of the Holy See and Apostolic Nuncio in Austria.
Life
Pedro López Quintana was on 15 June 1980 by Pope John Paul II. For the Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela for ordained priest and worked as a priest in his home diocese. He studied in Rome, graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University , the licentiate in dogmatic theology and a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical University Angelicum , in 1984 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See one.
Lopez initially worked as an employee at the papal representations in Madagascar, the Philippines and India as well as in the Roman Curia. From 1998 he was assessor in the General Affairs Section of the Vatican State Secretariat. In this function he worked for almost five years as the deputy of the then substitutes (Vatican "interior minister") Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and Cardinal Leonardo Sandri .
On December 12, 2002, the Pope appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Acropolis . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6th of the following year in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome; Co-consecrators were Leonardo Sandri , substitute for the Vatican State Secretariat , and Antonio Maria Vegliò , Secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
On February 8, 2003, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 10, 2009 as Apostolic Nuncio to Canada .
On March 8, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Lithuania . On March 22, 2014, he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Latvia and Estonia . On March 4, 2019, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Austria.
Archbishop Pedro López Quintana speaks three other languages besides Spanish and German.
