The Titan: Story of Michelangelo is an American documentary film from 1950 about the life and work of the painter , sculptor , architect and poet Michelangelo .

The Titan is the edited, shortened version of the film Michelangelo - The Life of a Titan (1938) by Curt Oertel , edited by Robert Flaherty and Richard Lyford .

Plot and awards

The life and work of Michelangelo, one of the most important artists of the High Renaissance , is presented by the film actor Frederic March as the narrator against the historical background of Michelangelo's time. Beginning with the early works and showing the artist's late fame, the film includes detailed reflections on some of the artist's best-known works.

The film, which received the National Board of Review Award for best foreign language film in 1950 , was also awarded the Oscar for best documentary film at the 1951 Academy Awards .
