Robert Snyder
Robert Snyder (born January 15, 1916 in Brooklyn , New York , † March 21, 2004 in Pacific Palisades , California ) was an American documentary filmmaker . He won an Oscar in 1951 for the producer of The Titan: Story of Michelangelo .
Life
Robert Snyder grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He married Allegra Fuller, the daughter of Richard Buckminster Fuller . His wife was a professor of dance at the University of California, Los Angeles . The marriage had two children.
In 1951, Snyder won the Oscar for best documentary film as the producer of the German-Swiss production The Titan: Story of Michelangelo . The film was actually from 1938 and was shot by Curt Oertel at the time. Robert J. Flaherty and Richard Lyford processed the film and let him by Fredric March english synchronize .
Snyder was nominated again in 1959, this time as the producer of The Hidden World , a documentary about insects . The speaker was Gregory Peck . In total, Snyder directed eleven documentaries himself, including biographies in particular, for example about Henry Miller , his father-in-law Richard Buckminster Fuller, the peace activist Caresse Crosby , Will and Ariel Durant , Claudio Arrau and the cellist Pablo Casals . and cellist Pablo Casals.
His twelve-part series Looking at Modern Art and Michelangelo: Self Portrait were broadcast by Public Broadcasting Service . Snyder died on March 21, 2004 after a long illness in Pacific Palisades.
