action

The film opens in 1922. A group of researchers is threatened by unknown creatures on an island in their camp. Little by little they kill the researchers and drive the last survivor, a woman, into an ambush. She still tries to fight back with a machete , but due to an accident the weapon gets stuck in a bamboo tube. The woman is also killed.

After a fade to black , the film now plays in the present. A group of young people borrowed a yacht from a wealthy friend to travel across the sea to a big party. The group consists of the muscular, light-footed Peter, who has been with Liz for some time, as well as the somewhat corpulent, wealthy Ira and his girlfriend Lauren. Her ex-boyfriend Jake is also on board. After traveling for a few days, Peter notices that the ship's navigation system is not working properly. However, he does not pay much attention to it, which leads to another argument with his girlfriend Liz. She's jealous anyway because Peter occasionally receives calls on his cell phone , but he keeps them away. She suspects that Peter is cheating on her. An argument breaks out and the phone is lost in the sea.

A day later, the boat scratched a boulder. It is destroyed in the process and the group ends up on a supposedly uninhabited island. They can rescue a few items, including a radio that they use to ask the owner of the yacht to pick them up. When they wake up the next morning, Peter has disappeared. A trail of blood leads into the forest and Liz immediately sets out to find him. Ira and Lauren prefer to wait on the beach, but in the end they follow her into the rainforest with Jake . Meanwhile, Peter wakes up from his impotence in an unknown place . He is wounded in the leg and notices that creatures are watching him in the thicket of the rainforest. He escapes and is pursued by the creatures.

The group is also attacked by the creatures. Little by little, the creatures succeed in capturing Ira and Lauren. Liz escapes with Jake at first, but the creatures pursue her. You discover the old camp of researchers and read in the latest records what happened to them many decades ago. The researchers were looking for a strain believed to be lost . They found the creatures, but were surprised by their malevolence and aggressiveness. Before Liz and Jake can sift through any further documents, the creatures attack them again. Jake dies in the attack, Liz is taken to the camp. There she has to watch as the creatures kill Ira and Lauren. Peter's body is also in the dungeon. She realizes that they are blind and rely on their sense of smell and hearing. She makes it to the beach, but there she realizes that the creatures have taken most of the items rescued from the boat - including a lifeboat. At night she therefore returns to the creatures' sleeping quarters. She manages to find the boat and distract some of the creatures with the help of a signal pistol so that she can escape. The creatures, above all the alpha animal , drive them into the same ambush in which they killed the researcher many decades ago. At the last second, Liz discovers the machete that is still in the bamboo and beheads the leader of the creatures. They then withdraw into the forest and let Liz go. She returns to the beach again, destroys the radio there and takes the lifeboat out to sea.

reception

The magazine kino.de praises Jöhg Ihle for his “remarkable directorial debut ” of his B-movie . The magazine is of the opinion that the film is an "exciting" implementation, which "thanks to three-dimensional figures also gets close to the viewer". All of this is implemented “technically mature, effective and pleasantly bright” and thus represents a “good addition to the horror shelf”. A review on another film portal sees Ihle's work as a recourse to the tried and tested, with which he “made an entertaining film with simple means [create] that outshines many a cinematic film. ”Only the“ absolutely unsuitable hip-hop music and the super-cool clique ”at the beginning is criticized.
