Theater days of the Bavarian high schools

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The theater days of the Bavarian grammar schools are the oldest school theater festival in Germany. The Theatertage has taken place every year since 1957 at changing venues in Bavaria. Most of the time it is a corresponding high school on site and other venues in the vicinity. The most remarkable theater productions of the respective school year are honored with an invitation to the Theatertage.

organizer

The theater days are organized by the sponsoring association for school theater at the Bavarian grammar schools. The support group includes the State Association of Theater am Gymnasium in Bavaria eV (TAG), the State Parents Association (LEV) and the Bavarian Philologist Association (bpv). The organization and implementation of the theater days is carried out by the respective school on site.

Goal setting

The theater days are intended to reveal the quality of school theater at grammar schools and offer an insight into the work that school theater does for the educational mission of the grammar school. The Theatertage want to enable high school theater groups to meet, promote their exchange of experiences and acknowledge their commitment. Theater teachers and an interested specialist audience should have the opportunity to actively shape the specialist discourse on school theater and to collect suggestions for further work. The Theatertage do not see themselves as a competition, but as a festival and, above all, as an advanced training event.

jury

A jury made up of various functionaries of the organizers decides on the selection and number of groups that take part in the theater days of the Bavarian grammar schools. The selected pieces are intended to provide a representative insight into school theater work at Bavarian grammar schools. A performance or rehearsal visit at an advanced stage is planned so that the jury can get a clear impression.

festival

Every year around 10 to 12 theater groups are invited to a festival lasting several days at a Bavarian high school. Many interested theater teachers from all over Bavaria and local students also take part in the festival. The focus of the festival is on the performances of the selected theater productions. The discussions of the performances serve to exchange experiences and are led by experienced discussion leaders. Professionally guided workshops are offered for the pupils of the invited groups , in which aspects from different areas of theater work are dealt with. For the theater teachers, specialist conferences with proven experts from science and practice are organized.

history

The Theatertage was founded on an initiative of the then chairman of the State Parents' Association (LEV), Dr. Heinz Roth, back, who was able to convince the LEV and the Bavarian Philologists Association of his idea to bring together playgroups from individual schools once a year in order to present plays and exchange experiences. Under the direction of Ludwig Faßold, Thomas Röttger and Reinhold Schira, and with the support of the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture , the Theater Days soon developed into a permanent establishment. In 2006 the 50th Theater Days of the Bavarian grammar schools were celebrated in Neubiberg with an anniversary review. Between 2009 and 2013, Günter Frenzel and Josef Meißner took over the management of the Theatertage one after the other. Maximilian Weig has directed the theater days of the Bavarian grammar schools since 2014.
